課程的教學目的與任務
跨文化交際能力包括語言運用能力、相關國家文化知識以及相關專業(yè)的能力和交流能力。通常認為語言運用能力特指外語知識和外語技能，忽視了學習者對目的語國家的文化知識的要求，特別是靈活運用已有的本國和目的國的相同之處，相似之處和差異進行跨文化交流的能力。該課程旨在擴大學生的知識面，對西方文化的不同層面有所了解，以提高學生的交際能力。在傳統(tǒng)的外語教學中,人們往往忽視文化的重要作用,只注重語言能力的培養(yǎng)而未能顧及交際能力的提高。近年來國內(nèi)學者認識到外語教學必須引進文化知識的對比，訓練學生靈活運用語言知識，更好地與外國人溝通，減少和避免誤解。該課程教學要求學生提高對文化差異的敏感性，更有效地與外國人進行交際，為英語翻譯專業(yè)課程的學習和翻譯實踐能力的提高奠定基礎。
課程就中國文化和西方文化進行介紹并作對比研究，授課內(nèi)容主要涉及語言、文化和跨文化交際的話題。該課程有助于增強文化差異的敏感性，增強跨文化交際意識，有助于英語翻譯專業(yè)課程的學習和翻譯實踐能力的提高。
課程的基本要求
本課程要求學生在語言學習的過程中提高利用外語進行跨文化交際的能力，通過學生對交際與語言、語言與文化、文化與價值觀的學習和討論，提高跨文化交際意識；通過學生對文化現(xiàn)象的思考和討論，反思語言學習過程，增加對文化差異的敏感性；通過學生案例討論分析等形式的課堂活動，提高學生的跨文化交際意識和能力，達到有效交流的目的。
該課程教學重點在于培養(yǎng)學生對英語國家文化的了解及跨文化交際意識，提高駕馭英語語言的能力，從而使其能得體地運用語言與操英語的外國人士進行交流，幫助學生認識中西文化的異同，分析文化差異的根源，幫助學生深化對西方文化的理解。課程主要通過對比中國和英語國家文化的方法，引導學生關注文化與語言的關系，提高文化意識和跨文化交際意識，從而提高對語言差異的敏感性，提高培養(yǎng)跨文化交際能力。
